Now that you have been accepted to Kyunghee, there are a couple of things you need to do before you depart: 1) D-2 Student Visa Since you will be staying in Korea for more than 90 days, you will have to apply for the D-2 Student Visa at the Korean Consulate. To apply for the visa, you will need:
To shorten the visa process, Kyunghee will email you a Confirmation of Visa Issuance. So when you go to the Consulate to apply for the visa, the only things you need are your passport, visa application, your photo, $45 fee, and the Confirmation of Visa Issuance. **Side note: I actually did not need to apply for a visa, because I am a dual citizen (Korea & US). Kyunghee emailed me mid-January notifying me there was a problem getting my Confirmation of Visa Issuance. Although I am a US citizen, because my parents were Korean citizens, I had Korean citizenship as well. My parents never renounced my Korean citizenship, so couldn't get a visa. Kyunghee notified me that I had 2 options: 1) Renounce my Korean citizenship and enter with a US passport or; 2)Apply for and enter with a Korean passport. At this time, it was about a month before I was leaving for Korea, so I just wanted the quickest option possible. I went down to the Korean Consulate to ask and found out the renunciation process would take up to a year so my best option was to apply for a Korean passport. To get my Korean passport, I just had to fill out an application at the Consulate and bring my US passport, birth certificate, and passport photo (The Consulate had a photo station where I could take my passport photo and like the Visa, the photo requirements were very strict). 2) Housing Confirmation In the Kyunghee application process, you also submit a housing application for the dormitory. You may choose to live off campus but you will need to indicate that on the housing application. I chose to stay in the dorms and the dorm I applied to was Sehwa Hall. After I submitted my housing application (along with the other application materials), I received an email in early-December and had to reply confirming that I will be dorming at Sewha Hall. In early-February, I received an email confirmation and information regarding arrival:
**Kyunghee offers an optional airport pick up service for exchange students and they will send out a form for those who need to picked up from the airport to go to the dorm. For this semester, they had 3 pick up services (10:30AM, 3:30PM. and 7:00PM) for Incheon International Airport Terminal 2. 3) Course Registration Around mid-January, I received an email regarding course registration and the list of courses offered for the Spring 2019. I went to talk to Carissa, my advisor, to look at the classes I would be able to take and found there were 4 classes that I could take that would transfer back to UH:
Unfortunately there was a time conflict with 2 of the classes (TIM334 and MGT342) so I had to pick one to take. My first choice was TIM334 and if I wasn't able to get that class I would register for MGT342. Because I had to take a minimum of 4 classes (or 12 credits) to maintain my full time classes, I had to pick another class to take. Here are some classes that I was interested in (but don't transfer as UH credits):
I was also notified of the Pre-Registration Period and 1st Course Registration Period. The Pre-Registration Period is when you can access the Course Registration website and select which classes you want to take so when you actually register, it is easier to find your classes. However, you must register for your classes during the actual Course Registration Period, and not the Pre-Registration. The 1st Course Registration Period was Jan 24 10:30AM-Jan 25 5:00PM in Korea time (Jan 23 3:30PM-Jan 24 10:00PM Hawaii time). During the Pre-Registration Period, I was able to see how many students also selected the same classes as me and for most of them, the Pre-Registration number exceeded the max number of seats in the class. So I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to get the classes that I wanted. On registration day, I logged in early and waited until it was exactly 3:30PM to register...and it was one of the most stressful minutes of my life. Most of the classes I selected during Pre-Registration filled up in less than a minute. I registered for 4 class and was able to register for BUS310 and TIM368 but I wasn't able to get either MGT342 or TIM334. In late January, Kyunghee notified me of a 2nd Course Registration. There was a possibility that some classes would open up more seats due to the number of students who want to take courses that are filled up. The 2nd Course Registration Period was Feb 18 10:30AM-Feb 19 5:00PM (Feb 17 3:30PM - Feb18 10:00PM). I was hoping either MGT342 or TIM334 would open up a few more seats so I logged into the Registration website to check. However when I checked my class list, I saw that MGT342 was added and I was sure that the class was already filled during the 1st Course Registration. I logged out and logged back in to make sure it wasn't a mistake but the class was still there. So I think a spot opened up and I was able to get the class or...I didn't check my classes carefully during the 1st Registration. Either way, I was pleased to get that class on my schedule. My class schedule after 2nd Registration: Helpful tip: Check your email frequently: Kyunghee will be communicating through email so it is important to check you email regularly for any news. Sometimes their emails may go to your spam folder, so check there as well

After your submit the MIX appliction and the additional materials, you will receive your nomination to the partner university. Once you receive your nomination and accept your nomination, MIX will email you the secondary application materials to apply to the partner university itself. I was notified of my nomination in September and the deadline to apply was November 1 (Korea Time).
To apply to KHU, I had to submit the following documents: CHOOSING A PROGRAM
The first step in your study abroad journey is to choose which program to apply to. There are 2 programs at UH which you can choose to study abroad with: Manoa International Exchange Program (MIX) and UH Study Abroad Center (SAC). Both programs are slightly different so you should think look into which program is a better fit for you. Because I wanted to study in South Korea (or some where in Asia), I decided to go with MIX since there were more options of countries and colleges in Asia compared to SAC. However, feel free to do your own research to see which program is a better fit for you.
